Dentinal sensitivity is the uncomfortable or painful sensation felt when the dentin, one of the most sensitive parts of the tooth, is exposed, allowing external stimuli to reach the nerve endings located in the tooth pulp. The causes of dentinal sensitivity can be multiple: gum recession, post-operative trauma, or persistent brushing with abrasive toothpastes or very hard toothbrushes.
